Dear Ed,

We just wanted to express our appreciation for all the work you are putting into this project. Paul and I especially wanted to say ‘thank you’ for your being conscientious about today’s forecast, and the possibility of rain, and for allowing everything to dry out before resuming work.

Also, I have to tell you that your employees are the hardest-working and most polite I have run across in a long time, in my experience of working with contractors. In addition, they are very polite whenever I ask them any questions at all.
